Restructure In U.S.
Dutch food group Numico, Zoetermeer, The Netherlands, has decided to re­structure its U.S. operations after a difficult year affected by a downturn in supplement sales. Six hundred jobs are likely to be lost as a result of the changes, which will affect all three Numico operations in the U.S., including General Nutrition Centers (GNC), Rexall Sundown and Unicity. Changes to the U.S. operation include the appointment of Peter van Wel as head of U.S. operations, replacing former GNC chief executive officer Greg Horn; cutting $40 million in annual expenses and reducing the workforce by 600; increasing marketing efforts of key brands and reorganizing product development.
